All students are welcome to apply to any of the clubs and activities listed below!
Students interested in starting a new activity or group should contact any teacher they would like to be their adviser.
ANIME CLUB |

Anime club is for Okatu (anime obsessed) anywhere! We meet every Friday and watch anime, discuss anime, or learn about Japanese culture. We also take field trips to AnimeCon, Manga stores, Japanese stores, and restaurants. We try to watch a wide variety of anime, so there is something for everyone! Open to all Mather students interested in fine arts, decorative arts or design, Art Club is a creative space for students to work on a broad range of projects. The club's structure emphasizes student choice. Artists can work on their own unique project or they can take part in planned projects. Ms. DiClerico works with select students on college portfolio development. Art Club also has regularly scheduled visits to museums and galleries.

Every Thursday, students and staff on the Board Games Club meet to have fun playing board games and and enhance their logical thinking skills. They play everything from Katan to Virtual 8-ball Pool.

Club members read and talk about self-selected books, magazines, manga, and comic books. Members “pitch” the books they would like to read next, and take turns facilitating the club. Book club members get free books and special access field trips and author visits.

Cooking Club comes together to create delicious, easy to make recipes that everyone loves! We cook breakfast, lunch and dinners that can be put together in about 30 minutes. Best of all, we get together to have fun and eat!

Dungeons and Dragons is a live-action role-playing game. You create a character, and then the Dungeon Master takes you on adventures. It combines imagination, creativity, and some math. Mather's Green Team is an eco sustainability club that works to reduce waste and make Mather a greener place through service learning projects!

Love is Love is a safe space group that includes students who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, etc) community, as well as those who identify as allies. All are welcome! Our goals are to encourage open, supportive communication around LGBTQ+ issues and to visibly contribute to improving our school community.

Led by Mr. Zegarra, this group of talent entertains Mather events, such as Mather Gather and Spirit Week. They write music to create their own songs and play covers.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY |

Branching Out New York City School Year Program provides young people between the ages 14-24 the opportunity, during the school year, to explore resource stewardship practices through a variety of educational workshops and hands-on field experiences. Youth participants provide support to New York City and Boston-area parks and are engaged in training sessions to address ongoing landscape stewardship projects. Throughout the year, youth also continue to build professional development skills and explore career and education pathways. This school year, five Mather students, ranging from sophomores to seniors got the opportunity to participate in the Branching Out School Year Program.

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

Navy Junior ROTC (NJROTC) at Graphics Campus is a 275 cadet unit whose goal is to provide students with fundamentals in citizenship and leadership. Students learn to contribute through community service to both veteran and community based organizations. They learn to lead through advancement within the unit, where they are given greater levels of responsibility, both in personnel and organizational management.

Peer Mediation is a resource in our school for conflict resolution! Students are trained in skills such as empathy-building, active listening, verbal and non-verbal communication, and contracting. Our trained mediators are called upon to facilitate healthy discussions between Mather peers and to create contracts that help these disputants avoid future conflicts.

The purpose of Students and Educators for Equity (SEE) is to advocate for policies and practices that eradicate disproportionality impacting historically marginalized communities. To change unfair and unbalanced access to educational experiences, we believe in a youth-driven authentic decision-making process in our ultimate pursuit of liberation.

Mather's Equity Team is focused on examining school practices and policies regarding academic and behavioral supports, and learning about beliefs and perspectives related to discipline practices, academic interventions and supports, culture, race, ethnicity, language, and gender diversity.
