Historic Preservation

Historic preservation requires workers who have specialized skills and an understanding of the underlying values of resource stewardship. In the CTE Department, we prepare students to work directly in the trades of carpentry, masonry, decorative finishing and landscape stewardship while receiving instruction in history, materials, and preservation methodology. This balance supports students’ transition to college and to job opportunities, which may include immediate postsecondary employment or entry into apprenticeships or journeymen positions.

Our classes aim to engage students with the appreciation of buildings and landscapes, foster an understanding of preservation themes and ethic, Introduce primary materials and tools of the building arts and landscape stewardship, and build foundational skills in the building arts and landscape stewardship.
